Datça punishes checklist travel. The peninsula is long, the road to Knidos is winding, coves tempt you to stay longer than planned, and Old Datça is more enjoyable after the day-trip rush thins. Three nights is not enough to “finish” the peninsula; it is enough to understand its rhythm without spending the holiday chasing pins on a map.
Pick one base and stop moving hotels
For a three-night stay I would keep one room. Datça center is practical for evening walks, restaurants and reaching different sides of the peninsula. Old Datça has atmosphere but is inland. A remote cove can be wonderful if swimming and quiet matter more than going out each evening.
Day one: arrive and deliberately do less
Check in, swim somewhere close and save Old Datça for late afternoon or evening. The first-day mistake is driving to the far end of the peninsula because the map makes distances look harmless. Arrival day is better used to learn your immediate surroundings.
Day two: make Knidos the anchor
GoTürkiye describes Knidos at the western tip of the peninsula and notes roughly an hour's drive from Datça town on a winding scenic road. Treat it as the day's main excursion. Add one or two stops, not six. If you stay for sunset, leave enough energy for the return drive.
Day three: choose a coast rather than collecting beaches
Pick the conditions and mood you want that morning, then settle into one or two coves. Wind can make one side of a peninsula feel different from the other. Ask locally before committing to a long drive simply because a beach was saved on social media.
The small experience I would protect
Leave one unscheduled two-hour block. It might become a long breakfast, a second swim, an almond stop or simply sitting in the shade. Datça's official tourism material itself emphasizes experiencing the destination slowly; an empty block is not wasted itinerary.
Who should stay longer
Five nights makes sense if you want repeated beach days, diving, long walks or a truly slow holiday. Datça is less rewarding when treated as a one-night transit stop between Marmaris and Bodrum.
A practical final check before you book
Open the itinerary one last time and remove one unnecessary transfer. Check current transport, opening hours and weather-sensitive activities close to departure. A strong holiday plan leaves enough structure to avoid logistical surprises and enough empty space for the destination to change your mind.
