Changing hotels makes a trip look efficient on a map and inefficient in real life. Every move includes packing, check-out, luggage, transport, early arrival and another round of orientation. In regions where several worthwhile places sit around one strong base, day trips often buy back more usable holiday time than a theoretically shorter drive.
Use a simple test: door-to-door friction
Compare the extra return driving of a day trip with the full cost of moving accommodation. A 45-minute return leg can be less disruptive than losing the middle of the day to luggage and check-in.
Cappadocia: one base is usually enough
Göreme, Uçhisar or Ürgüp can each function as a base for a short first trip. Moving between them rarely creates enough benefit to justify changing rooms during a three-night stay.
Kaş/Kalkan: resist the 2+2 split
For four nights, choose the evening atmosphere you prefer and visit the other area as an outing. Split stays become more sensible when the trip is longer or continues geographically onward.
Datça Peninsula: stay put
The peninsula's road means day trips already consume time. Moving the suitcase as well adds little. Choose a base that fits your evening routine and explore outward.
İstanbul: neighborhood choice beats hotel hopping
Even though İstanbul is huge, changing hotels to be closer to different sights often creates more friction than using ferries, metro and walking intelligently. An exception is when an airport, event or separate business obligation fundamentally changes the trip.
When you should move
Change bases when it unlocks a genuinely different geography: an early trailhead, a remote beach stay, a new region several hours away or an experience that depends on being there before/after day visitors.
A practical final check before you book
Open the itinerary one last time and remove one unnecessary transfer. Check current transport, opening hours and weather-sensitive activities close to departure. A strong holiday plan leaves enough structure to avoid logistical surprises and enough empty space for the destination to change your mind.
